Ever gotten up from your office chair and felt loose, pain free and energized? Sure, but it also likely that at times stiffness in your back, hips, knees and/or neck have made you feel like the Tin Man after a summer shower.
Physical stiffness and pain in your daily life are not only an inconvenience, they drain the energy from your body and the optimism and motivation from your mind. Fortunately, most of this stiffness is unnecessary and much of what is can be relieved.
In this posting, physical therapist Noel Tugwell, MS, MPT and I are providing you with three amazing stretches/exercises that are designed for the workplace or most anywhere you sit for prolonged periods of time. These movements will re-energize your body and attitude, burn stress, strengthen your abdominals, straighten your posture, and help fortify your body against injury! We designed these exercises because a wellness director from a large hospital called and asked if I knew of any stretching posters she could display in the break rooms and workstations of her hospital that would help her people reduce the physical stress of long days and energize their attitudes. I looked and looked, but the only stretching or exercise posters I found were designed when football players wore leather helmets or were an ineffective use of your time. So Noel and I put together seven super fast stretches/exercises designed specifically for the workplace that focus on unlocking and strengthening most people’s hot spots: back, neck, knees, shoulders, wrists and abdominals. It is our pleasure to give you the first three of these stretch-r-cises. Try them, feel better, move better, and work better! … and then post a comment on how they made you feel!
