The following are a compilation of a few pointers that can help to fight off cognitive decline:
Be active: In order to boost cognitive functioning you need to engage yourself in physical activity as often as you can. Working out boosts your brain health and promotes the development of new brain cells which in turn improve cognitive functioning. Furthermore, staying active also helps to alleviate stress and depression which consequently leads to a healthier brain.
Learn to manage stress levels. Chronic and excessive stress produces the hormone cortisol which has been shown to damage the brain and can eventually lead to memory associated conditions such as dementia and amnesia. So when you are stressed it is normal to suffer from memory lapse and have difficulty concentrating on things or learning new things.
Be mindful about what you eat. Enjoy all the healthy, nutritious foods that nature has to offer starting from fruits and vegetables. Additionally, supplement your diet with green tea as it is a rich source of antioxidants which keep your brain cells from dying. Apart from that, add in foods that are good sources of omega-3 fats for instance salmon, fish oil, tuna, trout, walnuts, and flaxseed. Though keep in mind to never overeat on any of these foods as excess calories can cause cognitive impairment and memory loss.
