Stress can take a great toll on your body. Headaches, pain in the shoulders, even nausea, lethargy, and depression can all be results of too much work and worry.

Getting a professional massage will often do wonders to work out the stress you feel in your body. Often accompanied by music and aromatherapy, a massage can help relax your mind as well.

A couples massage can be an extra treat for couples who need a little bonding time and break from stress. There’s nothing better for a couple than to spend some much needed time together in a stress-free environment.

Massages and facials for nearly every ailment can be found at the spa. Take an hour for yourself, or even a full day of different treatments, forget about your responsibilities for a while, and the next day, you can get back into your regular routine, feeling refreshed and renewed.

Work is important, and maybe you even love your job, but your personal wellbeing and your family shouldn’t suffer because of your employment. You have to make time for your family and yourself, and you must be able to forget about work, at least for a little while.

Exercise and eating right will also help alleviate stress. As you work out your body, stress can be melted away. Sometimes something as simple as a run or a Zumba class can work wonders.

You may enjoy getting your hair or nails done or going to the park. Whatever it is that you enjoy, take a few minutes or hours out of your busy schedule and do it.

The good news is, making yourself happy will make other parts of your life, including work, better as well. You can be a better you, and will find that you are more productive when you have had some time to relax or exercise in your off-time.

One Simple Breathing Exercise to Fight Stress and Increase Productivity in the Workplace

Proper breathing can help increase your productivity in the workplace

Proper breathing can help you relieve stress and improve your productivity in the workplace.

Andy Core is an expert in Work-Life Balance, Wellbeing and Peak Human Performance.

You have deadlines closing in, an intense workload and a hectic schedule; your stress levels keep rising and your productivity in the workplace is falling as a consequence. If you are in a situation where job tasks and working environment are harming your mental well being, the reasonable thing to do is to take a moment to relax. When overly stressed, our breathing pattern changes from deep and slow breaths to quick and shallow ones. Deep breathing fully oxygenates the brain and body. It facilitates a relaxed state of mind, while short breaths make stress even worse. By following this simple exercise, which takes no more than five minutes of your time, you will be able to bring your breathing pattern back to normal, and calm yourself down.

  1. Sit on a chair with your back straight. Your lower back should not touch the chair. Avoid straining yourself; you need to be comfortable.
  2. Start inhaling fully and deeply to the count of 4
  3. Hold your breath for another count of 4
  4. Start exhaling very slowly until you reach a count of 8
  5. Wait for a count of 4 before you start inhaling again
  6. Repeat for 10 times

If a count of 4-4-8-4 is too hard for you, you can try with a count of 3-3-6-3 or 2-2-4-2. Once you manage to control your breathing, you will find that you can cope more easily with stress, which will certainly increase your productivity in the workplace.
