Andy Core is an expert in Work-Life Balance, Wellbeing, and Peak Human Performance
When you’re nearing the end of a big project, closing in on vacation, or getting ready to switch jobs, it can be tempting to slack off for a while. It’s just like when you’re in school and the last couple of weeks before summer are kind of like one big party instead of a learning environment.
No matter what chapter of your life is coming to an end, you need to remain strong to the finish. If you don’t, it will be obvious in your work quality and your attitude. It isn’t fair to others, and it can result in a downgrade of your reputation.
Even if you’ve always done spectacular work, people will remember you for that one time you didn’t give your all. They will especially not let go of the memory if it somehow negatively affects them or makes them have to work harder.
You’re not only hurting others by lowering your work level, but you could be harming yourself as well. You could be setting yourself up for a bad review or a poor recommendation. Follow the same advice in life as you would in a race. Stay strong to the finish.
