Why Convention Speakers Don’t Cross the Line Between Work and Play

When the work day is over, forget about it and focus on your home life.

When the work day is over, leave the work at the office and turn your concentration to your home life.

With the workplace more competitive than ever, it can be tempting to take your work home with you so that you’re one-step ahead of everyone else. Convention speakers like Andy Core recommend that doing this can actually hinder your chances of success, instead of helping them.

The more you blur the lines between the two, the more upset you’ll be when something goes wrong. Everybody needs distractions to keep things in perspective and cultivating both your work and home lives equally can help. When you arrive at work, make sure you’re fully prepared mentally, emotionally and physically to deal with all the challenges.

Conversely, when you leave the office, leave the issues at your desk. Your family and friends, while sympathetic to you problems, aren’t your psychiatrist and shouldn’t be treated as such. It’s good to vent to them, but make sure you’re drawing a careful line between unloading and bringing your work home.

Convention speakers say that it’s okay to work as hard as you play. There’s no reason you can’t enjoy both, but just make sure that you keep a good balance between the two. It’ll be better for you both in the short- and long-term.

Be Who You Want to Be Today

Just like a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, you can grow, change, and evolve

Just like a caterpillar becomes a butterfly,
you can grow, change, and evolve

If you want to be better at anything – a more patient parent, a more loving spouse, or a more successful employee – start now. Don’t put it off or think you can’t do it. Just start being who you want to be today.
If you want to quit smoking, put down the cigarettes. Consult your doctor if you need help in the process. If you want a happier home life, start making positive changes to get there. If you want a closer relationship with a sibling or parent, pick up the phone and call them.

Many human beings have a bad habit of putting off things they should be doing, especially if those tasks seem difficult. The good news is, it’s not usually as difficult as it seems. Whatever you hope to accomplish can most likely be done, if you will just put aside you fears and jump in.
Of course, you can’t control how others react to your changes. Getting to where you want to be may take a while, but if it’s something you really want, you have to be willing to make those changes. And at the end of the day, at least you can feel good about yourself and the fact that you tried.
