You might know what foods are best for you, but you also know what foods taste the best to you. Finding a balance between the two is where you will find success in your quest to eat right.

People say you are what you eat. That doesn’t mean you will actually turn into a piece of cake or a hamburger, but if you eat a diet high in fat and sugar, chances are it will show somewhere. Even if you have a high metabolism and don’t gain much weight, eating a low-nutrient diet that is high in fat, sodium, and other non-healthful items will eventually catch up with your body somehow.

Your bones may become brittle, your blood sugar or cholesterol may skyrocket. Many people believe that all sicknesses can stem from what you put into your body.

Stress eating can be a huge factor for lots of people, so eliminating or reducing stress is a great way to help you stick to your healthy diet. It also helps a great deal to plan ahead, and stock you refrigerator and cabinets with good-for-you snacks.

It also helps to eat regularly throughout the day. Starving yourself is not a healthy way to go either, and it too can often result in binge eating. Positive thinking and keeping your goals in mind can also go a long way to keep your eating in check.

Everyone knows that human beings are creatures of habit. Whether you form good or bad habits will determine whether you feel fulfilled or left wanting more. The good news is that if you’ve gotten into some bad patterns, habits can always be changed.

If you make it a priority to eat healthy, for example, your body will start to crave those healthy foods. Once you’ve cut out fast foods, sodas, or snack cakes – whatever your weakness may be – you will find yourself thinking about those things less and less.

When you’ve been sitting around watching TV every night, going to the gym may seem like a lot of work. But if you make yourself head there on your way home from the office a couple of nights, you may find that it’s not a hassle at all, and you actually feel a lot better and enjoy it.

If you have made a habit of bringing home stress from work, and your home life has become just as stressful, you can change that too. Just let it go, enjoy the people you love, take your dog for a walk – anything to break that negative pattern.

Some habits, like smoking, can be especially hard to break, but you can do it when you make the decision to better your life. And don’t let one setback send you back to square one. Just because you smoke one cigarette doesn’t mean you have to smoke the whole pack. If you mess up, don’t dwell on it. Get yourself back on track and move on.

Prepare a snack-box to take to the office on a daily basis and get the kids involved too.  This is something the whole family can get involved in and not only will your diet be healthier, you will feel brighter and have more energy to handle the daily grind. Healthy snacks should be available to us each day, whether at our desks or on the go.
