Carbohydrates are one of the most essential macro-nutrients that are required by our bodies in order to function optimally. Carbohydrates are present in food such as grains, breads, pasta, starchy foods in general, fruits, vegetables, junk food etc. They are an essential part of a well-rounded diet.

Carbohydrates main purpose is to provide the body with the appropriate fuel that it needs for proper organ functioning. Carbs are also needed in order for individuals to actively engage in any form of physical activity. The best and most healthy sources of carbohydrates are whole-grains, milk, fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans etc. as they provide us with the most vital of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are required by our bodies in order to function correctly.

Carbohydrates are made up of a single sugar molecule and are presently divided into two categories namely simple carbs and complex carbs. Simple carbs are foods that are made up of simple sugars solely such as fruits, candy, soft drinks etc. Complex carbohydrates are comprised of starchy foods such as potatoes, oats, bread, rice etc.

So, in order to sustain good health, make sure to incorporate this macro-nutrient in your everyday life but only from natural sources ones that aren’t highly processed.

Many of you are not aware how much the food you eat affects your life. Your body needs vital nutrients to survive, the most common and essential ones are proteins, carbohydrates and fats.  All of these contain calories which are transformed to energy to fuel your body.  Without these three nutrients your body can’t survive.

You will find most of your proteins are in meats such as chicken and other poultries, meats such as beef and pork, and fish and all types of seafood.  Vegetable-based proteins are derived mostly from soy products such as tofu, and peanuts and other nuts such as almonds.  Many dairy products such as cheese and eggs contain proteins.

Also, fats are important in your diet because without fats your brain will not function properly.  So always make sure to eat fats, these can be derived from cheeses, butter and oils.  Some fats are more beneficial than others for best brain functioning and it is also important to avoid excessive intake of fats in your diet that can cause too much weight gain.

With such a well-balanced diet your overall health will improve drastically if you have not had such balance, and the risk of you having diseases as you get older decreases.  The key to optimum benefit is long-term consistency.

Andy Core is an expert in Work-Life Balance, Personal Wellbeing and Peak Human Performance.

Many of you wonder ‘’Why do I always feel tired?’’ There is a simple explanation in most people’s cases.

Often the reason that people feel tired is that they are not eating enough and not eating the right kinds of foods. The human body needs an adequate supply of carbohydrates to survive. Carbohydrates turn into energy that our body uses as ‘fuel’ in its daily functions.

So it makes sense that without adequate‘fuel’ our body feels tired and just wants to rest

Carbohydrates are found in food so your best bet to stop yourself from getting tired as easily is to eat more foods with higher levels of nutritious carbohydrates.

Another way to boost up your energy level is moderate exercise. A slow relaxing jog in the morning, not only boosts your energy level throughout your whole day but it also helps in preventing heart disease. And after a jog, a well-deserved shower helps you feel not only refreshed but less tired for the rest of the whole day

A simple jog can have amazing results for increasing and keeping your energy level up throughout the entire day.
