Productivity in the workplace is driven by the levels of motivation of the employees. In any organization, managers need to find ways of motivating the employees in order to increase the levels of productivity of the employees. There are many ways of motivating employees, some costly and some not so much. Finding the right method to use will depend on what the organization is aiming to achieve in improving the productivity, as well as the budget it has set aside.
Recognition is definitely one of the cheaper ways there is of motivating employees. It is effective, but requires a level of sincerity. Basically, it involves recognizing the efforts and the value of employees to the organization. Employees appreciate some recognition, especially when it distinguishes them from their workmates. The thought of recognition can boost productivity in the workplace.
Recognition needs careful implementation. As a manager, you need to know the right way to recognize the employees. This can be achieved by knowing them more than just employees, on a more personal level. A manager must also know each employees’ job description so that they know when an employee has gone above and beyond, or accomplished something significant in their department. However, people are different and they all have different ways they will feel appreciated in the organization. When you know them, you will be in a position to make recognition work to your advantage in relation to productivity in the workplace.
