Successful men and women have always advised to choose your friends wisely. Whether it’s good or bad, the people who surround you will have an effect on you. Friends, family, and associates can be wonderful at building you up, or they can be instrumental in holding you back.
The way people look at things can be, and usually is, contagious. People who spend all their time down in the dumps, complaining, and criticizing can be hazardous to your health, your career, and your life in general.
Conversely, positive, upbeat thinkers may help you become a better person. Thinking positively can help you achieve your goals. This is not to say that you can never be sad or complain about anything. You just can’t wallow in self-pity and anger.
Surround yourself with other goal-oriented people who choose to look at the bright side of life. If that means spending less time with a family member or old friend who brings you down, so be it. If you can’t bring them around and convince them that you need people with good attitudes in your life, then they will continue to be toxic.
In return, you should be a positive influence for your loved ones as well. Don’t put people down and only comment on their bad qualities or mistakes. It is fine, however, to give polite, constructive advice and always acceptable to compliment them and give credit where credit is due.
