Living up to your dreams can feel like a long shot, especially when you’re just starting out, or starting over. But if you believe in yourself, great things can happen. The key is to set achievable short-term and long-term goals. As you achieve those goals, set more goals, and so on.

Maybe you’ll never be a millionaire, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for barely getting by. If you apply yourself, keep working to improve yourself, and get yourself on the right track, you’ll be able to go a long way.

Sometimes dreams will have to be adjusted, of course, and occasionally there will be detours and setbacks, but a positive thinker — a dreamer—doesn’t give up without a fight. Be realistic in your goals. Don’t set them so high that you’re disappointed when you fall short. But don’t set them too low either.

Another element of success is to be happy with what you currently have, even while you’re striving for more. Don’t waste all your time dreaming, but instead, make your life the dream. Be content, but not so content that you stop trying to do and be better.

Furthermore, don’t fall for the temptation of instant gratification. Anything worth having is also worth waiting for.
