Identifying the source of your stress is sometimes half the battle in eliminating it and regaining your productivity in the workplace.

We all become stressed at work, and usually we are able to work through it and maintain productivity in the workplace. Sometimes, however, the stress will fester and we will find it highly debilitating. The first step to preventing such a situation is identifying the source of stress in your life. To do this effectively, ask yourself whether you are doing any of these three things.

“It’s Only Temporary”

When we feel under pressure, we may try to cope by understating the problem. We may try to reassure ourselves that it will all soon be okay; that you just have a lot happening at the moment and that things will soon be getting back to normal. This suggests that we are no longer seeing the bigger picture; it could very well be that we have been stressed for so long that we can’t remember the last time we had a rest. Take a step back and reassess.

“Things Are Always Like This”

We may acknowledge that things are stressful, but try to bat it away by saying that it is nothing extraordinary. We may say that it is just an integral part of our daily lives, or that it is just who we are. In either case, we seem to have resigned ourselves to being stressed. This is not healthy; unless we tell ourselves that this is not normal, we risk burning ourselves out and our productivity in the workplace will surely suffer.

“It’s Not My Fault”

This is a form of deflection; we feel that stress is a weakness and so try to blame another for it. In reality, stress may be inevitable, but it is only once we accept that we are the ones who must do something about it that we can start to deal with it. Stress can prevent us from maintaining our productivity in the workplace; look out for these signs to know when it is time to take your foot off the gas.
