“Every day, every week, every month and every year of my life my hero is always 10 years away. I’m never going to be my hero … that’s just fine with me because that keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.” -Matthew McConaughey
The expectations and assumptions that others have for you are numerous, diverse and impossible to achieve. And if you try, you’ll only lose yourself in the process.
You are not doing yourself a favor by competing with other people. So rather than exhausting the impossible choose instead to compete with yourself to give you goals that make you a better person. You should try to make yourself the best version of yourself without focusing on what others are doing. Focus on yourself and your family. Do things that are best for your health and career. Competing with other people is a waste of your valuable time and energy.
When you compete with yourself, you’ll improve your life because you’ll work to achieve your goals and strive to be even more successful. But this is success based on your standards. Not anyone elses.
Be encouraged by what you achieve and look at how far you’ve come from where you used to be. Most importantly, keep working on it. Set realistic goals and be patient as you chase yourself in the future, because you know that things are only getting better, while at the same time realizing that perfection is impossible. What’s important is the pursuit.
