Achieving Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness

Thomas Edison Quote on FailureAndy Core is an expert in Work-Life Balance, Wellbeing, and Peak Human Performance.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a phrase we learn as small children. Unfortunately, we really don’t learn what it means until later in life, and some of us never learn it at all.

There is a lot of advice out there on how to be successful and world changing, but the core piece of advice to keep in the forefront is to pursue what you love, every day, no matter what. That’s a life worth living.

Don’t pay attention to the naysayers, your limitations or your doubts. Keep going in spite of them. Every single person in this world has an ideal path that will make their life fulfilled, and those who can ignore the road blocks have discovered liberty.

To find your passion and be successful with it, you must go with what makes you truly happy and then pursue that happiness every day like you haven’t yet gotten it. Make every day a chase and never stop the journey. That’s the pursuit of happiness.

Many people do this without considering another way. They know what they want from a young age and don’t stop.

Think about the truly successful people in the world. Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs, Sam Walton, Walt Disney. All these people have two things in common- passion and determination. Each of them found something they loved to do and were passionate about pursuing it.

All of these people faced challenges that seemed impossible to overcome, but they didn’t care. They kept going, every day, and now they are famous for their success.

These people are lucky. They know what they want and they did it with passion. Many of us may still be confused as to that one thing we think we should do. But there lies the problem. Thinking. Instead of thinking about what you should do, weighing the risks and moving once you’ve decided to, you should just do. Don’t consider how you may fail or that you might not make any money. Certainly don’t think about what others will think. Just do what you know you want and pursue it every day.

Live the life you want and be successful. Make our forefathers proud and take your right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

How to: Fight Food Cravings without Going Crazy

How Much Exercise is Your Food Worth?

How Much Exercise is Your Food Worth?

Junk food: It’s full of sugar, calories, and very little nutrition.  It’s also delicious.

Now envision the average workday. It’s morning time, and you walk into the break room to see… doughnuts. Yes, you were good this morning and ate breakfast already, but that chocolate doughnut looks amazing. So you take one, thinking, “I’ll work it off later.”  Two hours later, your coworkers are eating mexican and invite you to come along, so you go eat chips and salsa and lots of cheesy goodness. Stomach full, you lug your body back to work where someone just made cookies. Yum. They smell so good, so you just take one. Eventually you go home and have dinner, and if you’re smart, you’ll have a salad and take your dog for a walk.

You weren’t planning on having any of those extra calories, but junk food temptation is a beast. However, if you don’t change these indulgent habits quickly, you’re going to have to buy a new wardrobe to fit into.

As a wellness speaker, I have a lot of people ask me the best way to handle this situation. Here’s my advice.

Remember the 90/10 rule.

If 90% of your diet is healthy and the other 10% is junk, and you stick to this 90% of the time, you’re doing alright. Just make sure you don’t OD on junk food so that your work performance is still good.

Keep in mind the calories.

Start connecting cravings to how much exercise you’d have to do to get rid of that doughnut. Check out this helpful infographic on the right. Do you have time to swim for 130 minutes and do crunches for 88 minutes? Didn’t think so.

Reduce cravings.

If you’re having intense cravings for a candy bar or bag of chips, giving into it with a small portion can take the edge off and divert your attention to more important matters. Nobody’s perfect and can stick to one habit all the time, so having just a little junk food here and there is a realistic way to live.

Take every moment at a time and remember that cravings typically only last for three minutes. So, like all temptations, if you notice they’re cropping up, set yourself apart for them. Go drink some water or unsweet tea. Pop in a piece of gum to take you mind off it. Soon those cookies and doughnuts might not seem so important.

Reward Yourself.

You should be looking at feeling good being the reward for eating well, but saving a bag of gummy bears for the end of the week can also be used as a reward for keeping up a good job throughout the week.

If you practice moderation, a little bit of junk food on special occasions can be more beneficial to your overall health and wellness than trying to withstand completely.

Work-Life balance is one of the most discussed subjects of 2014. Some say it is impossible, and some say it’s vital to the success of a business. Regardless, the first step to achieving it, is to understand what it is and how it helps.

What Is It Work-life balance is basically the positive relationship between work and other equally important activities in life which include family leisure, etc. The relationship can’t be clearly defined and varies from person to person according to their life demands. It’s important to notice the word, “relationship,” meaning that this is not a contest or a scale we must balance.

It’s an interaction of ideas that satisfie the needs in your individual life. Work and Life are not separate spheres. They are integrated moments in life that happen throughout the day.  Also, the concept of work-life balance is not just associated with women or busy executives. It’s a process applicable to everyone to increase the level of employee workplace productivity and motivation.

Benefits to Employees and Employers When you increase a person’s satisfaction level, they will benefit mentally and physically, which will, in turn, cause the culture of your business of to improve. Some examples include:

  • The individual is better responsive and can easily work in their paid work as well applying themselves fully to other aspects of their life like family commitments.
  • The self-esteem increases as well a health and other related aspects of one’s character like loyalty
  • The employee gets full control of their working life and can adapt better to any changes
  • The balance makes everyone at home happy and everyone at work happy
  • Employee-Employer relations will most likely improve
  • Turnover rates decrease while productivity increases
  • Employees are more likely to take a job that offers less money if there work-life balance is increased

There is Power in Your Attitude

Positive thinking can only benefit you

Positive thinking can only benefit you

Andy Core is an expert in Work-Life Balance, Wellbeing, and Peak Human Performance.

Every person is equipped with the power to bring change. If you believe something will happen, be it positive or negative, it will happen. This power is known as intention. It’s a choice and we all control that choice with our attitude.

It all boils down to how you think. Scientists have proven that our minds get into a habit of producing thoughts with a certain mindset. If you usually see life through a negative lens, the chemical produced will be familiar to your brain. The same is true with positve thought.

This perspective will create a chain reaction that starts with the emotions we store and generate on a daily basis. If we learn to nurture the good feelings and discard the negative, then our energy will attract positive energy from others. A smile does wonders to create a better day, a better reaction, and a better life.

Being positive can only lead to good things in your life. Don’t accept defeat and never let negativity stand in your way. Don’t even let it effect your thoughts. Obviously this can be difficult at times. But if you are able to welcome the challenges that face you and take pride in what you have achieved, it will motivate you and energize you to continue this flow of good energy.

Only you can decide what your attitude will be. If you make the daily choice to have a positive attitude your positivity will rub off onto others and begin to change the world. Literally, your attitude and belief can change the world.

You Can Overcome Any Obstacle

Andy Core is an expert in Work-Life Balance, Wellbeing, and Peak Human Performance.

the one you feedI motivate businesses and individuals for a living, and like everyone else, I too can grow weary from the demands of life.

Everyday you face difficulties that will discourage you. From normal stress to actual tragedies, life can be hard to handle. The secret to overcoming these obstacles is based on perspective. If you focus on what’s wrong rather than what is good in your life, you’ll fail to overcome your challenges.

Sometimes you must simply take a break and put things into perspective. Right now, some of you may feel ready to give up, but if you can change your attitude, you will see that things aren’t as hopeless as they seem.No matter how bad things might seem, if you persevere with a positive perspective you will find that things eventually change and you develop a happier lifestyle.

As a motivational speaker, my advice is to live a life of gratitude. This means consciously being thankful everyday. I’m not being trite- research actually shows that verbalizing what you’re thankful for, making a list, or even capturing the moment through photography, will help to transform your long term perspective .

I once was challenged to say something I was grateful for every time I turned on the faucet. When I started this, it felt almost comical, but as I continued with the challenge, it started to become habit and my life, by default, improved.

When you start this activity, you may not feel the immediate change, but just like dieting, if you continue to be thankful on a daily, or even hourly basis, you’ll start to feel better. You’re literally putting your perspective through a workout.

There are going to be harsh times as you progress through life, but also know that they won’t last. When you make it through and obstacle that is difficult, you will appreciate the good times and the achievements you worked hard for so much more.

What activities can you do that bring you joy? Dancing in the mirror, playing with your pet, singing out loud to a fun song? All of these are way to build up your positive perspective. Your attitude needs to be fed just like your body. Make sure what you’re putting into it is healthy and helpful.
